Criteria for O1A visa

O1 Visa Criteria

In order to apply for an O1A visa you must meet a certain O1 Visa Criteria which include: Proof the recipient has received a major, internationally-recognized award, such as a Nobel Prize, or proof of at least (3) three of the following:

 

  • Receipt of nationally or internationally acknowledged prizes or awards in their field
  • Membership in associations in their field for which require outstanding achievements, as determined by recognized national or international experts in their field
  • Published material in certified or major trade publications, newspapers or other major media about the recipient and the recipient’s work in the field for which classification is desired
  • Original scientific, scholarly, or business-related assistance of major significance in the field
  • Authorship of scholarly articles in professional journals or other major media in their field
  • A high salary or other compensation for services as confirmed by contracts or other reliable proof
  • Partaking on a panel, or individually, as a judge of the work of others in the same or in a field of interest related to that field for which classification is wanted
  • Employment in a significant or important position for organizations and establishments that have a well-known reputation

 

If the above standards do not readily apply to the recipient’s occupation, the petitioner may submit comparable evidence in order to establish eligibility.

 

Criteria for O1B visa

In order to apply for an O1B visa you must meet O1 visa criteria, which include: Proof that the recipient has received, or been nominated for, major national or international award or prizes, such as an Academy Award, Emmy, Grammy or Director's Guild Award, or proof of at least (3) three of the following:  

 

  • Performed and will perform as a lead or starring participant in productions or events which have a well-known reputation.

  • Achieved national or international recognition for achievements, as shown by critical reviews or other published materials

  • Performed and will perform in a lead, starring, or critical role for organizations and establishments that have a distinguished reputation

  • A record of major commercial or critically acclaimed achievements, as shown by such indicators as title, rating or standing in the field, box office receipts, motion picture or television ratings and other occupational achievements reported in trade journals, major newspapers or other publications

  • Received considerable credit for achievements from organizations, critics, government agencies or other known experts in their field

  • A high salary or other substantial compensation for services in relation to others in the field, as shown by contracts or other reliable proof

 

If the above standards do not apply to the recipient’s occupation in the arts, the petitioner may submit comparable evidence in order to establish eligibility (this exception does not apply to the motion picture or television industry).
